I spent the majority of my time in Africa on the reserve, on safari or in transit via car, jeep, plane and even boat. The airport hotel in Joburg was the closest metropolis experience I was afforded(but without complaint). I did, though, have one amazing day touring the community of Nompondo. Located just beyond the fences of the Hluhluwe-Imofolozi reserve, I went to photograph the effects of drought, particularly at the schools. A kind of misty rain, that offered false hope, lingered throughout the day but never once overshadowed the real struggles of water scarcity. It was a humbling experience and I look forward to returning.
